Glass blowing originated in Syria in the 1st century. The first items were practical. Then around 1247 in Maruno, Italy this art form was perfected. The results from the technic that uses colored art glass in hand-blown pieces is called Murano Just like its name, to make a figurine of blown glass, the artisans use a long tube to "blow" a lump of molten glass into their desired piece. These beautiful pieces are achieved by using only colored art glass, a gas burner, and special hand tools. The end results are works of art! We carry small hand-blown glass figurines that are birds and sea creatures. This is a craft that I feel needs to be kept alive. A hand-blown glass figurine is unique.
