The jewelry we carry from Ecuador is made from Tagua nut. These palms grow in the Amazon Jungle predominately along the Napo River which runs through Ecuador and Peru. The artisans harvest the ivory nuts, which are edible when young. When dried the nuts are known as ivory nut or vegetable nut. The nuts are hand carved and dyed using vegetable dyes. The resulting items are all ethically sourced, ecofriendly and sustainable. By using the nuts for jewelry many farmers are now keeping the palms instead of cutting them down.
